Welcome to That's Worth Reading

How do you find the right book among a sea of options?

The number of books available to read has exploded. Over four million books are published a year! In fact, no other industry has as many new products introduced each year than the book industry.

This flood of options can feel overwhelming. How do you discover and choose among what seems like an infinite number of choices? How can you feel certain that you will pick up a great book and enjoy your time reading it?

The goal of That's Worth Reading is to take signals from the world about a book's quality to determine the likelihood that a book is going to be a a book worth reading.

How That's Worth Reading works

That's Worth Reading relies on the wisdom of crowds to create book recommendations.

We create a master list of books based on:

  • Recommendations from experts and leaders (such as Elon Musk, Warren Buffet, Ray Dalio, and Sheryl Sandberg)
  • Winners and nominees of major books awards (such as the Pulitzer Prize, the Man Book Prize, and the Hugo Award)
  • Required and recommended reading at top universities (such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, and MIT)
  • Mentions on "best book" lists created by authors and experts
  • Sales data

We add to this master list of books user ratings (like a 'reader score'), which is compiled from multiple retailers and platforms.

User ratings are used to sort the master list. We adjust for the number of ratings (for example, more recently published books may have fewer ratings) by calculating the true bayesian rating.

All of this is done algorithmically, which means that the recommendations are calculated purely on data. This keeps our recommendations unbiased and objective. And all of our data is cited with a link to the source.

Our mission

Our mission is to provide excellent book recommendations for everyone. That's Worth Reading includes recommendations on a variety of topics including venture capital, medicine, pop psychology, military history, science fiction, and more.

We are the only book recommender that uses signals such as book awards and university course book recommendations.

We make our money when you click our links and make a qualifying purchase. We may receive a small share of the sale from the retailer.

We created this site because we wanted to make sure, as much as it is humanly possible, that the next books we read would be worth reading. Time is valuable and we don't want to waste any of it.
